WHAT: Monthly Democratic Breakfast: THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICS: HOW CANDIDATES AND LEADERS USE PSYCHOLOGY TO
WIN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF VOTERS
We have long understood that voters often respond to appeals that touch them emotionally. Political leaders employ various phrases and words that excite the emotions of audiences, stirring those constituents to support the appeals of those leaders. In short, political strategists turn to psychology (and allied fields in the social sciences) to “work” the voters.
Author and retired history professor Robert Toplin will lead the discussion.
WHERE: JABA, Hillsdale Drive.
- Saturday, March 20, 7pm

"Citizens United for Tom" house parties
Congressman Perriello's campaign will be a grass-roots effort built on small donors and the work of many volunteers. While the Supreme Court has paved the way for huge sums from corporations to flood our political system, and his opponents raise millions from lobbyists, Tom is running a people-powered grass roots campaign. When the money floods the airways, Tom's neighbor-to-neighbor campaign is going to break through the corporate clutter and bring his message directly to the homes of voters throughout the district. Kick-off date for this effort is Saturday, March 27 and we would like to have at least one house party in each city precinct. Please contact Leslie Welsh (leslie.h.welsh@gmail.com) for more information and volunteer to host a party.
- Sunday, April 18, 5-6:30pm
